Varsity Briefs is committed to delivering the highest quality evidence to advanced Public Forum debaters.

Our briefs are compiled by former high school debaters with a track record of success, delivering to you the quality of prep that has a history of bringing home gold.

With weekly updates, we stay up to date on the topic and develop new content based on debater feedback and requests. Put simply, we are a better brief.

Mason
Mason Renner is a former high school Public Forum debater and a current member of the University of Kansas British Parliamentary debate team. During high school, he was a four-time NSDA national qualifier, the 2023 Midwest regional champion in the Great Communicator Debate Series, and the 2024 NSDA national champion in Extemporaneous Debate.
Mason competed in Public Forum for four years, most recently placing second at the 2025 Missouri State Tournament, third at the 2025 NCFL Grand National Tournament, and 15th at the 2025 NSDA National Tournament. He has cut thousands of cards over the years, including finding and cutting studies used to win the 2025 NSDA Public Forum Debate championship as well as the 2025 NSDA Extemporaneous Debate championship.

Michael
Michael Redlich is a member of the University of Kansas British Parliamentary debate team and a former high school Public Forum debater. He was the 2025 Missouri State Champion in Public Forum Debate, a State Finalist in United States Extemporaneous Speaking, a Semifinalist at the Missouri Ronald Reagan Great Communicator Qualifier, and a national qualifier to both NSDA (2025) and NCFL (2024, 2025).

After four years in Public Forum, Michael particularly excelled in his final two seasons – developing advanced cross-examination and argumentation skills, as well as consistently reaching late elimination rounds at major tournaments. As Public Forum Captain for his team, he led topic preparation and compiled extensive evidence files, case materials, and blocks—producing hundreds of pages of original analysis that drove team and individual success at the district and state levels.
